Breffni Martin was educated at St Micheal’s College Dublin and Cistercian College Roscrea. At
University College Dublin he received his BSc specialising in biochemistry in
1983. Thereafter he worked for a number of major pharmaceutical companies in
the area of late stage drug development, in both a scientific, regulatory and
information technology context, as well as in environmental management. These
include GlaxoSmithKline, Bristol-Myers Squibb, Laboratoire Guerbet and Fermenta
(a Pharmacia spin-off).
In 1997 he joined IMS Health (IDRAC, a regulatory
intelligence company) where he developed regulatory content covering North
America, Japan, Australia and elsewhere, including a dedicated FDA Advisory
Committee intelligence business. He subsequently set up and operated RegIntel
and CanReg (Europe), regulatory intelligence and services companies.
Breffni Martin is a member of the Advisory Council of Europe for the Drug Information Association (the pharmaceutical industry’s largest professional association) and is a regular programme chair and speaker at their conferences.
In October 2010 Gower published a book entitled “Electronic Solutions for Patient-Reported Data” (editors Byrom/Tiplady) for which Breffni Martin contributed a chapter entitled “ePRO Applications and Personal Mobile Phone Use.”
He is also a member of the Louth Strategic Policy Committee (environment, water, emergency services) and the Louth Heritage Forum and Biodiversity Committee. He is a founder member and director of the Louth Nature Trust and the chairman for Birdwatch Ireland Louth. He has authored numerous Environmental Assessments as well as articles and papers on subjects varying from the obesity healthcare crisis, eclinical, global warming, risk management in drug development and natural history. He is bilingual French-English and a published wildlife photographer.
